Salkantay Inca Trail / Machupichu

CUSCO: was formerly the capital of the Inca EmpireOne of the most important cities of the Viceroyalty of Peru, in whose time and in the hands of the Spaniards, it was adorned with churches, palaces and baroque and neoclassical squares, which is what today makes it the main tourist place in Peru. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1983 by Unesco.

The SALCANTAY OR SALKANTAY: is the largest snow-capped mountain in Cusco located in the Cordillera Vilcabamba. It rises to 6271 meters above sea level and is the sacred white mountain of the region.

In the trek of Salkantay a Machu Picchu We will travel through incredible landscapes through cloud forests, imposing and snow-capped mountains, colorful lakes; this road to Machu Pichu is longer, higher and less frequented. We will be more isolated from traditional tourism and will be able to have a view of the highest mountain in Cusco, the Salkantay.

Itinerary

Meeting point: Cusco, Peru (air tickets not included, we will advise you on the purchase of this)
Total travel days: 10 days
Total walking distance: 90 approx.
Maximum altitude of the trekking: 4,550 masl - Start of trek: 3,700 masl
Physical condition: It requires good physical condition, since most of the time you walk from 6 to 10 hours a day carrying a backpack (day pack) of about 6 kg.
Lodging: In Cusco we will sleep in hostels or hotels, during the trekking: 3 nights camping, 1 night in a hotel in Aguas Calientes.
Porter: We will have 1 porter for 2 people, they will be entitled to 7kg each. Each expedition has a cook, mules and porter. We will receive food during the trek and the tents will be set up at the end of the stage.
I T I N N E R A R Y
DAY 1. JUNE 16TH. Meeting during the day in Cusco
DAY 2. JUNE 17TH. Tour of Cusco visiting sites of great archaeological and tourist interest such as: Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero and Moray. Talk before the trek with the local guide at the hotel. Final preparations for departure the next day.
DAY 3. JUNE 18TH : DISTANCE: 13 KM APPROX. After breakfast we will go by bus to the town of Mollepata and Cruz Pata where we will start our hike to Challacancha where we will taste our lunch and then continue until we arrive to Soraypampa where we will set up our first camp, we will visit the snowy Humantay and appreciate a beautiful lake that has three different colors, we return to the camp where we will have our "Tea time" and then we will have dinner.
DAY 4: JUNE 19 : DISTANCE: 22 KM. Soraypampa - Collcapampa Early in the morning after having our breakfast we continue with a light hike approximately 20 minutes to then begin the ascent towards the Humantay pass the highest point of our hike 4550 masl, passing this point we begin the descent observing the change of climate towards the jungle to have lunch and continue towards our second camp in Collcapampa we will have our "Hora de Te" and dinner.
DAY 5: JUNE 20 : DISTANCE: 17 KM APPROX. After our breakfast we continue our hike through a more temperate climate with the presence of endemic vegetation of the area and several typical snow-capped mountains of the valley to reach the village of Playa where we will rest and take our lunch, and then continue to Aobamba 2700 masl where we will set up our third camp, we will have the "Tea Time" in the afternoon and at night our dinner. Overnight.
DAY 6: JUNE 21 | DISTANCE: 30 KM APPROX. Aobamba - Llactapata Hidroelectrica Aguas Calientes Early in the morning after breakfast we will head through a temperate climate to the community of Llactapata where we will have lunch, we will continue until we reach the village of Hidroelectrica where we will say goodbye to our staff of porters and cook to continue along the train track with our guide to the village of Aguas Calientes where we will spend the night in a basic hotel and have dinner in a tourist restaurant.
DAY 7: JUNE 22ND : DISTANCE: 10 KM APPROX. Machu Picchu - Cusco After breakfast we will go to the citadel of Machu Picchu where our guide will explain the tour for two hours, then we will have free time to revisit the places of interest at the expense of the passenger (without guide). We will return to the town of Aguas Calientes where we will take our tourist train to the town of Ollantaytambo and then be transferred to the city of Cusco. Overnight in Cusco. Approximate time: Time we spend in Machu Picchu.
DAY 8: JUNE 23RD. Free day and rest in Cusco
DAY 9: JUNE 24TH. We will be able to witness the public part of one of the most colorful, traditional and imposing festivities of a city in Latin America, the heart will turn around when we realize that the Inca Empire is alive! The Inti Raymi, worship of the Sun in Quechua. All morning we will be able to witness Quechua dances, parades and the Inca Sun Prayer. Free afternoon for shopping or resting.
JUNE 25: Return to destination cities or to take the following tour: ask for options (Colored Mountain, Titicaca Lake, Choquiquirao Trek).

Frequent questions

Do I need a Visa to travel to Peru?
You do not require a visa, you can travel with your passport, even with your identity card.
Do I find internet during the route?
No, you will be in a remote place, we invite you to connect with the road.
What is the highest point of the hike?
We will pass through the pass (pass between two mountains) of Humantay and Salkantay at an altitude of 4,550 meters above sea level, it will be a quick pass and then the descent begins.
Why do they follow this path and not the traditional path?
It is a much more natural trail, with impressive landscapes, we will have a good part of the snow-capped mountains of Humantay and Salkantay, we can see beautiful lagoons and it is much less traveled than the traditional one.
Is it possible to sleep in a bed and not in a tent during the trek?
It is not possible, the trail presents this challenge and we do not find hotels along the way, it is a great experience, our local operator will make it as comfortable as possible, at the end of each day's stage you will have your tent set up and when you leave each day the porters will take care of dismantling it.
If I am unable to travel on the proposed date, can you arrange for me to travel on another date?
