Guainía, Land of Many Waters

The department of Guainía is in the easternmost part of Colombia, where you can find the Mavecure Hills, three rock formations that protrude from the Orinoco-Amazon jungle and that only Mavecure can be climbed. They are part of the Guyanese shield, one of the oldest geological formations on the planet.

In the middle of the hills, the Inírida River meanders, which in summer exposes beaches of bright white sand and its waters become orange, thanks to the tannins of the leaves of the surrounding vegetation. The jungle is inhabited by ancestral indigenous communities, who will welcome us and teach us a little more about their culture.

ITINERARY (subject to change due to Satena flight schedule changes, indigenous conditions, weather conditions)

DAY 1 Arrival in Inírida and transfer from the airport to the city, lunch and transfer by boat to the community of Venado (Cerros de Mavecure): we will have the first view of the imposing hills.

This plan starts at the airport of Puerto Inirida, does not include flights (we help to buy them, flight by Satena, once a week, except Saturdays). Then we will embark to the hills of Mavicure, Pájaro and Mono belonging to the Indigenous Reserves of Remanso and Venado. Welcome to the community. Circuit by Mavicure river passing through the savannahs until reaching a small rocky outcrop to watch the sunset. Dinner. Accommodation in an indigenous hut.

DAY 2 IN THE LAND OF THE TEPUIS

Early breakfast and we prepare for a very special day, we will climb the sacred hill of Mavicure, we will recharge ourselves with its special energy and we will be able to recognize the landscapes of the Guayana Shield, the savannah, the infinity of the savannah. Lunch. Bathing at the Inírida River beach. Tour in curiara (indigenous canoe) for dolphin watching in the area of calm waters of the nearby streams. Dinner. Lodging in an indigenous cabin.

DAY 3. INIRIDA RIVER STAR

After a well deserved rest we will have breakfast and we will travel to the Great Orinoco River. We will recognize the Fluvial Star of Inírida and the tributaries Inírida, Guaviare, Atabapo and Orinoco. We will take a swim in the Atabapo and its red waters, then we will return to Inírida, lunch and in the afternoon we will visit the Kenke reserve, where we can learn about the endemic flower of Inírida and its work for the conservation of indigenous knowledge and flavors. We will spend the night in Inírida in a hotel (rooms for 2 or 3 or 4 people, if you require a private room you can request it for an additional supplement of 100,000 thousand).

DAY 4. SUNRISE AT LAGUNA DE LA BRUJA

After a well-deserved rest and depending on the time of the return flight, we will leave early for an early morning boat ride on the Laguna de la Bruja, bird watching and a trip to the Inírida River. Return to the hotel, breakfast, time for souvenir shopping and transfer to the airport (itinerary subject to change, depending on Satena's confirmation of flight time).

Is it safe to travel to Guainía?

What is the best time of the year to travel?

There are two seasons: the rainy season is from April to November and the dry season: December to March. In rainy season you will have the high rivers, more navigable, the jungle green and flooded, the hills are beautiful wet. In summer season, you will find the low rivers, white sandy beaches and quite hot. Both seasons have their charm.

Will I have contact with the indigenous communities?

If you will sleep in their reserves, they will be the ones who offer you lodging, food, local guide, transfers, they are very involved with tourism. We must always arrive with respect, ask permission from the community to take pictures and be open to their culture and beliefs.

However, if the process takes longer for reasons beyond EXPLORA VERDE's control, it will not recognize any interest on the amounts to be refunded. THIRD PARAGRAPH: No refund will be made for unused agreed services.
