THE GUATIQUÍA CANYON OR MONFORTIANO TRAIL, . The road is a network of royal roads and trails that connects the Eastern Plains with the Bogotá Savannah, it was used for barter (commercial exchange) between the Muiscas and Guayupes, exchanging corn and salt. This road is also known as the road to Meta, and it is little traveled. Mountains of Water, Paths of Peace.

The Guatiquía Canyon, is a mountain range separated by the Guatiquía River, which rises in the Chingaza páramo and flows into the Meta River.

This is a trekking for warriors and adventurers, used to long treks and carrying suitcases, mud and rain to go up and down, this trekking will allow you to live with the peasant families, their customs and receive with love the food that they will prepare for the hikers, they are the greatest treasure of the road. The rest will be in rural houses. 3 stages, 38 km and a positive difference in altitude of 3,200 mt

Itinerary
Walking distance: 38 km
Approximate time per stage: 6 to 8 hours per stage (the terrain changes constantly, there are landslides and sometimes it is necessary to change route).
Climate: temperate and hot, very rainy and muddy.
Ecosystem: Tropical rain forest
Positive difference in altitude: 2,300 mt + D
Negative difference in altitude: 3,000 mt -Dz
Location: foothills of the Páramo de Chingaza, Guatiquía Canyon, the easternmost part of the Eastern Cordillera.
Start of hike: 4 hours from Bogota - San Juanito Meta
Attractions: Waterfalls, canyons, bridle paths, streams, rivers, birds, local culture, peaceful territory, hanging bridges, rugged landscape.
ITINERARY
DAY 1 - STAGE 1. Very early we will meet at the Transoriente station to take an intermunicipal bus to Choachí, there we stop for breakfast (not included) and take a 4x4 on the way to San Juanito, crossing the Chingaza National Park where we will stop at the magical Laguna de Chingaza. | Arrival to San Juanito, lunch and start of stage 1 Start walking to the San Roque trail, we will begin to see the beauty of the Guatiquía Canyon, we will cross streams, waterfalls and hanging bridges. Dinner and rest: will be taken in a peasant house in the middle of the route, who receive us with all the love in the world. WALKING DISTANCE: 8 KM
A night in the middle of the mountain and a good rest to start the hardest stage, we will walk on bridle paths, parallel to the Guatiquía Canyon, where we can observe and cross streams, hanging bridges, observe birds and a great biodiversity. Step by step we will walk along these rugged trails listening to stories that will surprise you! | End of stage Monforth small town in the middle of the mountain | DISTANCE TO WALK::: 16 approx (estimated distances, it is possible to vary due to landslides or deterioration of bridges, you should go with an open mind).
STAGE 3. We start our last day towards Villavicencioo, where we will arrive at a village where a transport will be waiting to take us to lunch and then to the terminal where we will return to Bogota by public transport. Walking distance: 10 km approx (due to landslides we may have to make detours or take the transport before).

TRANSPORTATION: Day 1: by public transport from Bogota to Choachi Transfer by 4x4 from Choachi to San Juanito Meta (approx. travel time 4 hours). Day 3: Transfer from the end of the trek to Villavicencio in 4x4 and transfer by public transport from Villavicencio to Bogota (the value includes this ticket, for any eventuality on the road and must take a transport elsewhere, we do not assume the extra cost of this, or additional accommodation).

Tips and personal expenses
Additional transfers due to abandonment of the trip. They are insured but this covers from hospital care
We will be in remote areas, evacuations are very slow and complicated, mules, additional carts must be covered by the walker, they must arrive in good physical condition.

How demanding is the crossing?
The Travesía is beautiful, requires good physical condition and good health, do not suffer from knees, there are steep descents and ascents.
Shall we enter the Chingaza Natural Park?
We will stop at the Chingaza Lagoon to appreciate it and then we will continue in the vehicle through the moor until we descend to San Juanito.
